Any of her campaign-related reporting, even if it had only an indirect connection to the Liberals or NDP, could have been perceived as a conflict of interest.”
In December 2014, the media website Canadaland presented evidence that earlier in the same year, Lang had provided favorable CBC coverage to two companies, Manulife and Sun Life. Importantly, Lang had not disclosed to viewers that both of these companies had recently engaged her for speaking engagements. Furthermore, in January 2015, Canada published stories highlighting that Lang had taken part in the coverage of the Royal Bank of Canada during its temporary foreign worker program scandal.
During this time, she interviewed with the then-CEO of the bank, Gord Nixon. What was not disclosed to viewers was that Lang had participated in speaking engagements at RBC-sponsored events, where she promoted her book featuring a back cover endorsement from Nixon. It was also not revealed that she was in a relationship with a board member of the bank.
