She began her career for three years at WGEM in Quincy, Illinois. She relocated to Kentucky so that she could work at WTVQ in Lexington. Prior to relocating to Indianapolis, she worked at our sister station WHAS11 in Louisville, Kentucky. She joined the cheerleading squads at both campuses.
Additionally, she led the freshman cheerleading squad at Center Grove during her final year of college. She moved to Ball State University in 2014 to pursue a meteorology degree. She storm-chased across the Great Plains with one of her courses. On the eastern plains of Colorado, she witnessed numerous tornadoes in a single day. She was born and reared on Indianapolis’ south side.
She used to be terrified of the thunderstorms in the Midwest. As she got older, she wanted to face her fears, and she started learning what caused thunder, lightning, and tornadoes and grew to love storms. After graduating from Center Grove High School in 2012, she went to Indiana University.
She initially studied to become a nurse but quickly realized she wanted to follow her true passion: weather. Chelsea and her husband are glad to be back home in Indiana and closer to their families. They are excited to welcome their first child in the fall of 2023.
