Moving from Ohio to Florida marked a significant change for Heath, although he has spent most of his life in Texas. His reporting career began in Waco, Texas, where he focused on government and military affairs, particularly at Fort Hood.
His coverage of the US Army took him to New Orleans, where he spent a week with the First Cavalry Division during their rescue and recovery missions following Hurricane Katrina. Six months after returning from New Orleans, Heath was deployed to Iraq with the Fourth Infantry Division to cover combat missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
For two months, he traveled across Iraq, documenting soldiers on raids, aid missions, and even moments of “R&R,” including a softball game near one of Saddam Hussein’s palaces. Three years after his return from Iraq, Heath was sent to Fort Hood once again to cover a tragic shooting spree that resulted in 13 deaths and over 32 injuries.
Now, Heath, his wife Moriah, their sons Raymond and Benjamin, and their two dogs, Bettie and Lola, have settled in central Florida. In his free time, Heath enjoys playing hockey, running, and taking his dogs to the dog park.
