While pursuing his master’s degree at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, Morgan started his broadcasting career by covering the September 11 attacks. Morgan also spent two years teaching English at Milwaukee Area Technical College and journalism at Jackson State University.

Following graduation, Morgan was hired as a reporter at Jackson, Mississippi’s WJTV, a CBS affiliate. He joined Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s ABC affiliate WISN in 2004 and worked as Portia Young’s co-anchor for three years.

Furthermore, he began working as an anchor and reporter for Miami’s NBC station WTVJ in 2007. He started working for NBC in December 2008, joining WNBC in New York as a weekend anchor and a cut-in host for MSNBC.

Additionally, Morgan joined Atlanta’s NBC affiliate, WXIA, in January 2012. Where he co-anchored the 6 P.M. newscast on weeknights with Brenda Wood and reported for the 11 P.M. nightly broadcast. Morgan also instructed journalism courses at Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse College while he was in Atlanta.

Morgan departed WXIA in October 2015 to work as a correspondent for CBS News. On April 17, 2019, it was revealed that Morgan would join Suzanne Marques as the daily morning anchor for the 4:30–7:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. newscasts at CBS station KCBS in Los Angeles starting on May 6, 2019.

Moreover, he served as the anchor for a few CBS newscasts during the COVID-19 outbreak. Including the CBS Weekend News from Los Angeles as the CBS Broadcast Center was off limits due to afflicted CBS personnel. He is now employed by ABC News as of December 2022. He has largely co-hosted GMA3 since 2023. Morgan was named as a permanent co-host of GMA3 in May 2023

Morgan has served on the board of managers for the YMCA and is an active member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. Additionally, he has volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the American Cancer Society, Sweet Alice Harris, and the NAACP.

While in college in 2001, Morgan became the only African-American male to rank in Scripps Howard’s Top 10 Collegiate Journalists in the country. While in Milwaukee, Morgan was the Honorary Grand Marshal for two years in a row for the United Negro College Fund.

He has been honored with several Associated Press and broadcasting awards. In Ebony Magazine’s 2006 recognition of African Americans for their “knowing the importance of giving back to their communities”. Moreover, for their reflecting “the burgeoning leader within”, Morgan was listed as “One of America’s Young Leaders of the Future”.
