Hainsworth’s radio career spanned 11 years, including six at the all-news station 680 News in Toronto. During his time as a reporter at the station, Hainsworth received the 1998 Best Spot News award from the Toronto Police Service for his breaking news coverage of the crash of the RAF Hawker Siddeley Nimrod aircraft during the Canadian International Air Show.

Later, he temporarily assumed the role of anchor for the “afternoon drive” broadcast before transitioning to the business desk. In 2000, Hainsworth transitioned to television and joined the emerging BNN network. He not only hosted some of BNN’s highest-rated programs but was also recognized by viewers for his ability to distill the day’s financial news on local CTV newscasts across Canada and for CTV News Channel.

Hainsworth frequently refers to himself as a “computer geek” and maintains a technology and human interest-oriented blog featuring stories often covered for the networks.
