Growing up in Orange County meant she could watch the news almost any time of the day, and she did, sometimes for hours. By the age of 10, Tami knew she wanted a career in broadcasting because she loved the idea of being able to inform people about what’s important in the world. Mlcoch joined KGET as an anchor and reporter in 2000.
You can catch her on weekdays on 17News at 5, 6, and 11 pm. Tami got her first on-air job at the Orange County NewsChannel after graduating with a degree in broadcasting from California State University, Fullerton. From there, she went on to work as an associate producer at KCAL-9 TV in Los Angeles and a reporter and anchor at KERO in Bakersfield before joining the 17 News team.
Tami feels fortunate to be living her dream at a station where community involvement and helping people in need are just as important as delivering the news. Tami also feels blessed to live in a “big city with a small town heart.” She’s always telling anyone who will listen to what a wonderful place Bakersfield is, and it’s much more than “what you see from the freeway.
”Tami is very active in the community and is very passionate about animals and encouraging people to get on the bone marrow registry. One of her first stories at KGET was about Mikella McAuley, a young girl who passed away from leukemia while awaiting a bone marrow transplant. Tami and her husband Brian, a Tehachapi High alumni, married in 2004. Together they have three children: Micayla, Jake, and Sienna. They also have two dogs and two cats, all of them rescues.
