She was born and raised in Phoenix, she had a love for the monsoon from a young age, which led her to pursue a career in Meteorology. Moreover, she attended the University of Arizona in Tucson and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Science with a double minor in Math and Journalism.
She worked at the National Weather Service while attending the U of A and has stayed connected to her alma mater by currently serving on the advisory board for the Hydrology and Atmospheric Science Department. Amber was honored with two back-to-back Texas Associated Press Broadcasters Awards for Best Weathercasts in 2007 and 2008. She was also recognized again at the Texas Legislature for these awards in May of 2009 when a house resolution was passed in her honor.

Amber also volunteered her time to help the efforts of the El Paso Extreme Weather Task Force, taught two semesters of meteorology classes at The University of Texas El Paso Center for Lifelong Learning, and authored a weather activities book to help teach young children about severe weather safety. She has earned the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation, the highest seal attainable for a television meteorologist. Sullins is also a five-time Emmy Winner.
She was honored in 2010, 2013, and 2014 with the Rocky Mountain Emmy for Best Weathercast, as well as the 2013 and 2016 Emmys for Best On-Camera Weather Talent. In the summer of 2011, Amber was called on to go to New York and fill in on Good Morning America where she covered the biggest heat wave of the year across the east coast. She has filled in on GMA several times since. During her free time, Amber enjoys spending time with her husband, two children, and her long-haired miniature dachshunds, Willis and Lilly.
