As a brain cancer survivor, Ben has strong ties to non-profits throughout the state.”I was 8 and my bone age came up 15,” Goldman says. Something was amiss. An MRI detected a tumor that sat between his optic nerve and hypothalamus, the pea-size operator of glands that control hormones and body temperature and keep the human body in a stable condition. One doctor wanted to operate and take out the tumor but warned that surgery presented a high risk of devastating side effects.
A biopsy showed the cancerous tumor was between Stages 2 and 3. Goldman and his family opted for chemotherapy. Goldman knows there is always a chance that his cancer can recur. But he looks at the upside. Cancer was a path to meeting a wider world of influential people and opened his eyes to people in the helping professions.

Goldman grew up in Wethersfield, CT. A graduate of both Wethersfield High School and The University of Connecticut where he studied Communications and Political Science. He got his start at the ripe age of 16 years old when he got as a freelance reporter at FOX61. As part of the position, Goldman reported on Connecticut Charities twice each week as the host of Ben Goldman’s Charity Corner. As a brain cancer survivor, Ben has strong ties to non-profits throughout the state.
After his time at FOX61, Ben reported on weekends in Springfield, Mass. for Western Mass News. He also interned for various stations including PIX11 in New York City and NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt. During his time at Nightly News, Ben was involved in the special 2016 Election Night coverage. During his time at FOX61, Ben has covered a wide range of stories including a collection of exclusive stories about tenants in Hartford’s North End fighting against their landlord.
