Lam is a lifelong Western New Yorker, he grew up in Hamburg, right along the lake, and savored all the lake effect snow events that typically roll through the Buffalo Southtowns. Lam earned his broadcast meteorology certificate from Mississippi State University in 2018 and is currently pursuing his MBA at the University at Buffalo.
He attended the State University of New York at Fredonia and graduated in 2014 with dual degrees in Music, Journalism, and Audio and Radio Production. Furthermore, he then went on to pursue two graduate degrees at the University at Buffalo in Higher Education Administration and Music Performance in 2016 and 2018, respectively. Additionally, he previously worked as a fill-in meteorologist for sister TEGNA stations including WZZM-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and WKYC-TV in Cleveland, Ohio.
He is an endorsed weathercaster by the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society. and has been part of the team ever since. Lam has covered the weather across multiple regions, states, and countries. He had two stints in Rochester as a fill-in meteorologist. The first, in 2019, was with WROC-TV, and then from 2020 to 2021, he worked at WHEC-TV. He also continues to work as a meteorologist for CityNews 680 in Toronto, Ontario and provides additional weather coverage as needed for Calgary, Vancouver, and Halifax.
He began his broadcasting career as a reporting intern at WBEN-AM in 2012 and was a two-time intern at WGRZ-TV, first in news in 2013 and then in weather in 2014. Additionally, he worked as a fill-in traffic reporter with the NFTA from 2014 to 2019. Apart from forecasting, Lam works in higher education and has taught in various communication and journalism programs including at SUNY Fredonia, the University at Buffalo, and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Moreover, he is a classically trained violinist and has been playing for 25 years. He currently plays with the Erie Philharmonic and the Western New York Chamber Orchestra.
