Conan Nolan is an American Political Reporter for KNBC-TV in Los Angeles, NBC Universal’s flagship station for the western United States. He is also the host of the station’s News Conference program, one of the nation’s longest-running local political/public affairs shows established in 1966 by Tom Brokaw and Bob Abernethy, News conferences are normally broadcast Sunday mornings following Meet the Press in the Los Angeles market.

Nolan’s first full-time broadcasting position was at KVEC-AM radio in San Luis Obispo, where he served as the Assistant News Director. Two years later, he moved to television, first as a weekday reporter and weekend sports anchor at KSBY-TV. He later moved to KSBW-TV in the Salinas/Monterey market. Among the stories he covered was actor Clint Eastwood’s campaign for mayor of Carmel, California.
Additionally, as NBC4’s political reporter, Nolan covers national, state, and local politics and is well-known for his interviews with top political leaders on ‘News Conference,’ which airs Sundays at 9 a.m. Nolan covers news stories that have had a profound impact on Southern California. He has also reported on behalf of NBC News from Kuwait and Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and from Pakistan and the Afghan border during the invasion of Afghanistan.
In addition, he reported from Rome on the death of Pope John Paul the Second and from Lebanon on the Arab reaction to the anniversary of 9/11. He received an Emmy Award for his reports on child refugees in the Pakistani frontier and a Golden Mike Award for a report on the South Pacific island nation of Tuvalu and the consequences of global warming.
Prior to joining NBC4, Nolan was a general assignment reporter at KSBW-TV, the NBC affiliate in Salinas, California. In 1981, he worked as a news reporter and weekend sports anchor for KSBY-TV in San Luis Obispo. Prior to that, he served as the assistant news director for KVEC-AM radio and political reporter for KCBX-FM radio also in San Luis Obispo.

In 1989, he reported live for NBC News from Candlestick Park moments after the 7.2 magnitude Loma Prieta earthquake (he had been on vacation attending the sporting event at the stadium). He broke the investigation into singer/entertainer Michael Jackson by the Los Angeles Police Department in 1992. In 1994, he was reported live during the police pursuit while driving in front of O.J. Simpson’s white Ford Bronco.
