Jared Dillingham Career
Dillingham has covered everything from Senator John McCain’s campaign for president to the Jodi Arias trial, to the largest wildfire in Arizona history. He’s filed reports from Vietnam, the DMZ, Mexico, and Washington, DC since resiting to Arizona. His winning awards were of stories on unprotected children in Arizona, they focused on children in immigration court, the struggles LGBTQ youth face at home, and special education students in a unique music program. Additionally, Dillingham graduated from Syracuse University with degrees in broadcast journalism and political science. He went to beautiful “Big Sky Country.” after internships at News12 Long Island and NBC in Washington, DC.

In addition, he spent a year at KRTV in Great Falls, Montana, before moving to KREM in Spokane, Washington. For now, the Valley has truly become ”home” for Dillingham. He lives in Phoenix and spends his mornings listening to as many news and political podcast as possible. in his leisure time, he can be found escaping to others around the state, hiking Piestewa Peak or Camelback Mountain. In an interview, he was asked, what makes Arizona so special to him. He answered: I’d never considered living in the Southwest, but I was offered a weekend reporting job here while I was covering a snowstorm in Spokane. The weather initially sold me to Phoenix, but my experiences here have kept me from moving elsewhere. Watching the Valley sink into a severe recession, and then rise from it, creates a strong emotional attachment.
Jared Dillingham AZ Family
Dillingham was still asked to express how he felt about the people he admires: Two Arizonans who come to mind are Gerda Weissmann Klein and Sandra Day O’Connor. I wrote to Justice O’Connor as an elementary school student, and still, have the lengthy reply she (or a clerk) sent back. I’ve interviewed her several times, and she was always witty and frank. I also admire the iCivics program she developed after leaving the Court. Gerda Klein is a Holocaust survivor who moved to Arizona later in life. Her autobiography, “All But My Life” is one of my favorite books. Over the years, once in a while, both women would appear at talks or Q&As together, and it was always a joy to hear their stories and get a sense of their mutual admiration.
Lastly, he was asked who has been an influential role model in his life and why? he answered family was a “CBS family” growing up, and Dan Rather became his role model in elementary school. Whenever my parents took me to New York City, I would insist on spending time outside the CBS building, HOPING he would walk out. I finally got to meet him (by chance) coming out of a Broadway show in 2014. He was friendly and smart, and everything you’d HOPE your role model would be.
