Additionally, Matthew previously worked in his hometown market of Richmond, Virginia at WTVR CBS 6 News. He spent three years there as a reporter, where he covered the removal of the Robert E. Lee Statue and other Confederate monuments in Richmond, along with protests following the death of George Floyd. He also covered the yearbook blackface scandal of former Virginia governor, Ralph Northam, and the Virginia Beach mass shooting in 2019.
Before that, Matthew worked in Harrisonburg, Virginia as a multimedia reporter at WHSV for three years.
