Coats has been KIFI Local News 8’s weatherman since 2006. Initially appearing in the early morning newscast, and in 2010 being elevated to Chief Meteorologist. Michael formerly worked for KIFI’s sister station in Palm Springs, California, before joining Local News 8. He attended California State University Northridge from 2000 to 2004 where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism.
He later enrolled in Mississippi State University in 2006 and graduated in 2009 as a Broadcast Meteorologist. Before working at KIFI, he worked at KESQ CBS Local 2 and KUNA from June 2001 to June 2006 as a photographer. California’s Hemet is where Michael is originally from. After attending California State University Northridge, he went on to Mississippi State University to study meteorology. Radar is the name of the family dog that Michael and his wife have.
