Mibach working as an anchor is a dream come true, he made a promise to his late father when he was 21 years old, telling him he was leaving the Bay Area to go on a journey. He promised him he would come back to the Bay Area, as a reporter. His parents are native San Franciscans. his three siblings were born in the Bay Area, but he was actually born in Jakarta, Indonesia. Mibach’s father worked for Bechtel and they lived overseas for quite some time. So when he was born, the family happened to be in Indonesia. Three years later his father passed away, and his mom and siblings settled in Marin.
He graduated in May 2000. He attended high school at St. Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco (Class of ’94) and then it was off to College of Marin for a few years. Home of the Mariners. He transferred to the University of Colorado at Boulder, Go Buffs, to study broadcast news. He was denied entrance into the J-School two times. Moreover, he never quit, he applied a third time and was accepted. Mibach began his career at WIBW in Topeka, Kansas. His news director at the time told him he had a lot to learn before becoming a reporter! So he basically cut him a deal– he would start as a photographer. Shooting and editing taught him a ton about how to report, how to write, and how to tell a story. After a while, he was one man banding in Topeka! After Topeka, he traveled to KVOA in Tucson, Arizona where he had his first five-day-a-week reporting gig. Additionally, a couple of years in he had the opportunity to anchor the weekend evening newscasts. In March 2005. The dream came true. He was hired on by KTVU as a general assignment reporter Wednesday-Sunday. Since then, he helped launch Mornings on 2 Saturday and Sunday, co-anchoring with Claudine Wong. A few years later, he helps launched their 9 a.m. newscast, The Nine, and also KTVU FOX 2 News at 4. He currently anchors the 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. hours, KTVU FOX 2 News at Noon, and reports for a number of special projects.
Additionally, He loves his 49ers and SF Giants and heading up to Lake Tahoe. he enjoys relaxing on the beaches along the Marin and Sonoma coasts and the trails up on Mt. Mibach is married with two amazing children! furthermore, they are big dog fans and currently have their black lab Sadie who they adopted in November of 2018.
