He grew up in a town called Brainerd, Minnesota, and attended college sixty miles away from home at Saint Cloud State University (SCSU). Speliopoulos is a Minnesota transplant. Nik has been a sports fan all of his life and knew he wanted to keep that as a focal point in his career when he decided to major in broadcast journalism at SCSU.
Nik is so excited to start his career and to learn the sports in Alaska such as college rifle and dog mushing. His favorite memory from UTVS is when he hosted Husky Faceoff on Hockey Day Minnesota 2020. Nik and another UTVS alumni, Mitchell Barnhart, won an SVG award for the show. In other capacities, Nik has had the opportunity to work for CBS Sports Network for Super Bowl LII and TNT during the 2019 NCAA Basketball Final Four. He enjoys covering any sport during any season. One of the sports he has followed most extensively in college was SCSU’s Division-I hockey program.

It was comfortable for me to go to college only an hour away from home, but I wanted to challenge myself not only in the work world but also in other facets of my life as well.
