Gallivan is a product of the Buffalo Public Schools, He graduated from the Buffalo Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts. After high school, he was on to The College at Brockport, where he majored in Communications. Moreover, he was a two-sport (hockey and soccer) athlete at Brockport. His career in broadcasting began in 1987 at a small, day-timer radio station in Brockport. Gallivan did sales, disc jockeyed, and ultimately became News Director at WASB. From Brockport, Gallivan’s career saw stops on local radio in Canandaigua, Warsaw, and Rochester. He discovered his passion for visual story-telling at Rochester, as a reporter at WHEC-TV and later WROC-TV.
In 1996, his hometown called and Pete returned to Buffalo and WGRZ-TV. Since then, he has been a general assignment reporter, weekend anchor, and Daybreak anchor. As a result of reporting has won 2 NYS Emmys, a regional Edward R. Murrow Award, and an Associated Press Award. Additionally, Gallivan was part of the Daybreak team that won an Emmy for best morning newscast. Pete and his wife Sarah have raised three children, Brenna, Benjamin, and Hannah, along with several rescued greyhounds.
