Reh graduated from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, with a double major in meteorology and broadcasting. He earned the American Meteorological Society Television Seal of Approval in 1984. He has taught continuing education classes on the weather at Duke University and has visited literally thousands of schoolchildren throughout the years explaining the hows and whys of weather.

In addition, he initiated the first ozone maps to be used graphically in the country and presented a tutorial video at the 2003 National Air Quality Conference in San Antonio.
Through his experiences as a television meteorologist in the area, he has gained a unique understanding of how important the weather is to viewers and how it affects North Carolinians. He is in the stage of his career where young adults come up to him and say that they grew up watching him. During his free time, Reh enjoys exercising (so he can eat), cooking, spending time with his family, being outdoors, and following the Cubs.
