McEwing co-anchors Good Day LA from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. with Araksya Karapetyan. McEwing joined KTTV FOX 11 in 1993. In 2001 and 2003, McEwing was honored with an Emmy Award for his half-hour special “Songs of Our Success.” McEwing earned a Master’s degree in editorial broadcasting from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in 1981. Furthermore, he received a Bachelor of Science in education in 1978 and attended the School of Law.
He has worked as a reporter for The News-Sun, the largest daily newspaper in suburban (Chicago) Lake County, where he covered the business and industry beat during the summer of 1980. As an actor and writer, he is known for Big Momma’s House (2000), The United States of Leland (2003), and Songs of our Success (2009). Tony spent 12 years working at KXTV, then the CBS affiliate in Sacramento, where he anchored the morning and noon newscasts. There, he filed in-depth reports on the Southland, including the Rodney King trial and the civil unrest. Before joining KXTV, he was the Washington, D.C. correspondent for WDSU, the NBC affiliate in New Orleans, Louisiana from 1980-81.
He has earned seven Emmy Awards during his tenure at FOX 11. Additionally, McEwing received a National Daytime Emmy nomination for his half-hour special Mission of Hope which focused on the LA Mission’s year-long rehabilitation program for the homeless. McEwing has also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the RTNA of Southern California.
