Arnold was born in Atlanta, grew up in Houston, and graduated cum laude from the University of Iowa. She earned her Master of Arts degree in Communications and Media Studies from Florida State University in 2009. She then resumed working for her company’s clients. and worked as an anchor and reporter in major-market television stations across the country – Des Moines, Louisville, Baltimore, and Cleveland, before returning to Houston where she anchored KHOU’s 5, 6, & 10 PM newscasts for five years.
Her longtime love of music and acting led her to Los Angeles for five years, until Houston called her home again, and business opportunities in television production beckoned from Orlando, Miami, San Francisco, and West Palm Beach. Additionally, after the death of her longtime love from pancreatic cancer, following invaluable help during his care by a Houston hospice, Amanda returned to Florida to work at Boca Raton’s Hospice and Homecare By The Sea for three years, as Director of Community Relations.
After dodging four South Florida hurricanes in 2004, Amanda moved to southeast Alabama in 2005, to renovate the family home in Dothan where she had often visited her grandparents, aunts, and cousins. After launching Amanda Arnold Communications, she worked as a freelance writer for Dothan Magazine, a speechwriter, consultant, video producer, and book editor/collaborator primarily for political and business clients. She also served as a public relations executive and fundraiser for local non-profits.
In March 2020, the coronavirus pandemic motivated Amanda to move back into television news. “With the story of our lifetime unfolding before our eyes, it suddenly came to me that I could no longer sit as a viewer on the sidelines. I am deeply grateful to WDHN — after such a long and winding road — for the opportunity to come full circle, back to a career in television where I know I belong.
